GCSE MATHS TUTORING

Who is GCSE Maths Tuition for?

  • Students lacking confidence

We rebuild confidence by identifying learning gaps, increasing knowledge and tackling exam technique for pupils in Years 10 and 11.

  • Students aiming to secure a Grade 4 or 5.

Lessons focus on mastering the core topics to ensure they reach the mathematical standard pass.

  • Students aiming for Grades 6-7

We strengthen algebra, geometry, problem solving and mathematical reasoning, introducing Higher Tier topics with confidence. Calculator use is also included to ensure familiarity and ease on tackling more multi-step questions.

  • Students aiming for Grades 8-9

High-attaining students are challenged through demanding exam questions and ensuring they are fully confident in the crossover topics first. Often, a full lesson will work through a more complex topic to ensure that in-depth knowledge is embedded, especially in different contexts.

Why start GCSE tuition early?

Beginning in Year 10 allows time to build confidence, address misconceptions and develop strong exam techniques without the pressure of approaching examinations.

How does GCSE Tuition work?

  • After an initial chat regarding current school levels, we undergo an assessment of strengths and gaps.

  • Learning gaps are then identified and addressed as soon as possible to ensure the pupil begins to Feel confident in their mathematical ability.

  • Once knowledge and skills have been practised, exam questions – in various formats and guises - are shown and modelled to help the student understand how to approach exam techniques.

  • In addition, practice papers and questions can be worked through as additional homework if required.

Which exam boards do you teach?

We cover all exam boards of AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.

We also cover the International IGCSE across the maths range.

When should your child start GCSE tuition?

Ideally, working through these gaps earlier is much better than leaving it until the Spring Term of Year 11. We recommend starting in at least the summer term of Year 10, but the earlier, the better.

Can you help students who re-sit the GCSE exams?

Yes, we can! We have the flexibility to work around any college days / timetables to ensure we can fit GCSE resits in both November & in May/June.

GCSE MATHS TUTORING

How do you decide whether a child should take the Foundation or Higher GCSE paper?

We assess each student’s confidence, current attainment and school recommendations before advising whether Foundation or Higher Tier is the most appropriate direction.

Our aim at mastrellimaths is always to maximise confidence while helping students achieve their highest realistic grade.

Do you support students aiming for the highest GCSE grades?

Yes, we work in depth across specific high-tier topics such as

  • Surds
  • Algebraic Fractions
  • Inverse & Composite Functions
  • 3D Pythagoras & Trigonometry
  • Quadratics
  • Completing the Square
  • Proof
  • Vectors
  • Circle Theorems
  • Grade 9 – specific exam practice and other Higher-Tier topics required by the exam boards.
