KS1 AND KS2 PRIMARY MATHS TUTORING

Who is primary maths tuition suitable for?

  •  Children lacking confidence

We can rebuild confidence through patient & encouraging teaching. Whether your child needs a KS1 maths tutor or a KS2 maths tutor, lessons are tailored to each child’s pace. We use discussion, activities and enjoying mathematical games to develop this confidence.

  • Children working near/at age-related expectations

Online maths tuition can help to consolidate learning and strengthen understanding. If there are any misconceptions that need addressing, those will be followed up in our tuition discussions.

  • High-attaining pupils

With one-to-one primary maths lessons, children can extend the mathematical thinking through more in-depth questioning and activities. These can also include rich mathematical investigations that extend beyond the classroom. Reasoning is at the heart of this and adapting newly found knowledge into differently observed contexts.

How can Primary Maths Tuition help?

· Addressing and closing any learning gaps.

· Increasing a child’s knowledge of maths topics which helps to build a child’s confidence.

· Making maths more enjoyable and memorable! We want maths to be engaging and fun for all our learners.

Which mathematical content do you cover?

We cover the KS1 and KS2 Maths National Curriculum.

Number: Place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Fractions: Equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, decimals and percentages.

Geometry: Shape, angles, perimeter and area.

Problem Solving: Reasoning, investigations and mathematical thinking.

As a Primary Maths tutor, we also ensure we cover mental maths objectives and discuss explanations using maths-specific vocabulary.

What age groups do you teach?

We teach children from Year 1 to Year 6 (ages 5-11, both KS1 and KS2) (see Y6 SATs Tuition section for more details).

KS1 AND KS2 PRIMARY MATHS TUTORING

Can you help my child with times tables?

Yes, we can! The Multiplication Check takes place in the summer term for Year 4 pupils, but confident recall of times tables underpins many areas of the maths curriculum, regardless of age or ability.

What does a 1:1 lesson look like?

Depending on the age, we will start with a mental maths / warm up activity of the basics. Then we would move onto teaching of the current topic by teaching a new concept.

We would guide through questions together before slowly providing the child with independent questions to help retain the concepts. Reviewing work and feedback with the child is ongoing throughout the lesson to build confidence.
