Who is Y6 SATS maths tuition suitable for?
- Year 6 Pupils lacking confidence.
As a KS2 SATS Maths tutor, we can rebuild confidence for pupils in their SATs year through patient & encouraging teaching. Lessons are carefully tailored to each child’s pace, helping them develop confidence through discussion, guided practice and engaging mathematical activities.
- Year 6 Pupils aiming for the Expected Standard.
Firstly, we can strengthen a child’s core maths skills through arithmetic practice. Strong arithmetic skills form the foundation for success in the reasoning papers, where pupils are expected to apply their mathematical understanding in unfamiliar contexts.
- Year 6 Pupils aiming for Greater Depth.
As part of SATS maths preparation, we can develop a child’s reasoning and problem-solving skills. We also ensure all areas of the curriculum – including topics that are not covered as much in depth – are practised and discussed.
What are the KS2 Maths SATS?
Examinations that take place for Year 6 children in May which assesses all maths skills from the entire Key Stage 2 year groups (Years 3-6: not just Year 6!)
Paper 1 is the arithmetic paper and Papers 2 & 3 are the reasoning papers.
Are the KS2 SATS important?
As with any assessment or activity, we ask that every child tries their best. We encourage 100% commitment on everything we cover and that is enough.
Y6 SATS MATHS TUTORING
Do you provide homework?
Yes, optional homework can be provided between lessons to reinforce learning and prepare pupils for the following session.
We also provide a summer holiday service for those who want to keep their maths ticking over during the long summer holiday period.
What do we cover?
- Arithmetic methods that include mental maths, the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division), fractions, decimals & percentages.
- Reasoning which includes multi-step problems, explaining answers and choosing efficient strategies.
- Confidence, exam technique & resilience through positive discussions in our tuition sessions.
What does a typical SATs lesson include?
- Arithmetic fluency – the cornerstone and foundation to SATs success.
- Timed practice and exam techniques to more difficult problem solving / reasoning questions.
- Confidence and reassurance building through the lessons and personal feedback to improve further. (Parents are also informed at regular intervals about progress within lessons).
- Our aim isn’t simply to help children perform well in their SATs, but also to ensure they leave primary school with the confidence and mathematical foundations required for a successful transition into secondary school.
